Heirs of Colonialism in the Knowledge Archive German Language. A critical reference work. The epistemological goal of Wie Rassismus aus Wörtern spricht consists in working out how white Europeans* have created colonialist and racist thinking and preserved it in knowledge archives and their terms, through which it is still effective today. Consequently, core concepts of the white Western knowledge system are discussed here in order to come to terms with the interaction of racism, knowledge and power. These explanations are based on theoretical discussions on colonialism and racism and supplemented by alternative, resistant ways of naming. It is not about an administratively operated or demanded state language policy, but about the analytical disclosure of what ‘our’ language contains in terms of traditions, what it contains and thus reproduces – and thereby protects through denial strategies. The socio-political hope is to change consciousness and then language practice through linguistic awareness. Susan Arndt, Nadja Ofuatey-Alazard (Ed.) ISBN 978-3-89771-501-1 Release date: March 2019

Africa's Achievements
The images of the past and present that are presented to us play a great role in our perceptions of the world and in the way we mould our identity. What have black people contributed to the world’s history? How much do we know about their role in both history and the present day and what do we not know? This book aims at questioning our image of black people. The achievements of a number of different black personalities and groups, be it in medicine, seafaring, architecture, religion, politics among other things are intended to fill the gaps in our knowledge of Africans’ contributions. This is information which has fallen into oblivion or we never knew about; or does the result of a eurocentric attitude lead it to be considered unimportant or is it just ignored? A long Way Away - The End to Poverty
The kinds of poverty, the measurement of poverty and the portrayal of poverty change but poverty itself does not go away- it still exists. About three thousand million (GB) / three billion (US) people are considered to be poor; about one thousand million (GB) / one billion (US) to be extremely poor. Poverty is not exclusively a problem of the southern hemisphere – there is a wide variety of causes. It can be found both in cities and in the country despite a wealth of raw materials and education; despite or perhaps because of some kinds of waged employment. But instead of fighting poverty the poor people are often fought against and their poverty is vindicated. Publisher: Dritte Welt e.V. – Informationszentrum 3. Welt. (Third World Action Association. Legends that are buried -Black Europe
Black European personalities from two centuries are presented. What they all have in common is that they were famous in their own time and who, despite difficult social circumstances and political unrest, made their own way in life. Racism and discrimination marked their lives. The basis of their success, however, was their skills and talents. Their portraits come from the areas of culture, science and politics. In addition, there is an insight into the history of African-European migration which began several centuries ago. Publisher: Pädagogisches Zentrum Aachen e.V. (PÄZ) (Pedagogical Centre Aachen)

Saving the World to Death: For More Professional Management in the Fight Against Poverty
The renowned US economist and development expert William Easterly criticises so-called ‘planners’ who order utopian und impractical plans from a distance without realising what is really needed. Instead he demands more support for ‘ seekers’. The concrete measures should be found locally and funding is guided to where self-help can be achieved in verifiable steps. Easterly illustrates this with numerous facts and examples: medical care, education and nutrition can be improved effectively for millions of people if development funds were to be treated rigorously as an entrepreneurial investment. The development cooperation of the future
Under changing global political and economic constellations, the question arises as to whether development cooperation in its current form is still up to date. Are their goals, structures and instruments still appropriate? How must it respond to new global challenges, how can and should it be reshaped? What has proved its worth, what needs to be changed, what can be learned from other actors in international cooperation? Possible answers to conceptual and strategic questions about the development cooperation of the future are discussed in this volume from the perspectives of science and practice. Can be ordered at:

The fairy tale of 'At Eye Level'. Power and solidarity in North-South Partnerships
‘At eye level’ and ‘partnership’ are terms which are often and very readily used in north-south solidarity or development work. The are intended to be a signal for progressiveness and to demonstrate solidarity. But do these terms go beyond pure rhetoric? How do patterns of thought structures in north-south partnerships come about? Which perspectives and roles do the so-called partners from the south have within the partnership? The publication ‘The fairy tale of ‘At Eye Level’ brings together ten activists and NGO employees from the north and the south to illustrate a range of aspects within NGO structures, school partnerships, voluntary organisations and solidarity work.
