The images of the past and present that are presented to us play a great role in our perceptions of the world and in the way we mould our identity. What have black people contributed to the world’s history? How much do we know about their role in both history and the present day and what do we not know? This book aims at questioning our image of black people. The achievements of a number of different black personalities and groups, be it in medicine, seafaring, architecture, religion, politics among other things are intended to fill the gaps in our knowledge of Africans’ contributions.
